Celebrating the Music Room's rich history of championing folk music- and continuing our tour of incredible traditional music from across the home nations- we're heading North of the border. Tonight, we're welcoming back some of Scotland's finest Folk artists- award-winning trad pioneer Anna Massie and the magnificent Breabach, who return to the Music Room for the fifth time.
Breabach are amongst Scotland’s most skilled and imaginative contemporary-folk acts. Deep roots in Highland and Island Gaelic tradition combine with progressive musical influences, cultivating a unique sound that anchors double bagpipes, fiddle, whistle, step-dance and song with energetic double bass and guitar accompaniment. Versatility, love of experimentation and a willingness to push the boundaries of Scottish roots music have endured as the band’s core values as they’ve embraced many cross-genre collaborations, released eight critically acclaimed albums, and toured the world.
Equally at home as accompanist or melody player, Anna Massie is one of the trad world's foremost guitarists. As well as being a skilled multi-instrumentalist renowned for her work with Blazin’ Fiddles and RANT, she also presents BBC Radio Scotland’s award-winning flagship trad music programme, Travelling Folk. Four-time nominee for Best Instrumentalist at the Scots Trad Music Awards, winner of the 2021 Trad Music in the Media award for her Black Isle Correspondent work and 2022 Producer of the Year award, Anna is a highly talented musician, presenter and producer.
