Nccl: Nicaea 1700

NCCL marks the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea by looking at one of the Council's legacies: the Nicene Creed. During the morning we will hear from three speakers offering different perspectives on the Creed; there will be time for questions and discussion.

1) Why we need the Nicene Creed the Revd Richard James (Holy Trinity, Norwich)
A brief overview of its origins and terms, exploring the terms which the members of the Council of Nicaea 325 felt it critical to agree upon when speaking of God as "the Trinity". What did orthodoxy look like following its publication? How is this Creed still critically important for Christians today?

2) Nicaea and worship the Revd Charles Read (Diocese of Norwich and ERMC)
How did creeds and statements of faith get into Christian worship and what is their function when they are there? What are the options and possibilities for making this part of an act of worship come alive in our culture? Why is all this important for the contemporary church?

3)What if the Creed were about how to live? the Revd Patrick Morrow (Ashill group)
A summary of Metropolitan Anthonys talks (now book), which suggest that the creed is about how to live, in spite of appearances.

Event runs 10am to 1pm.
