Tomorrow’s Warriors & Soweto Kinch: Harlem Now!

Explore the ongoing impact of the Harlem Renaissance through the lens of music today, with Tomorrow’s Warriors and artists including Soweto Kinch.

The acclaimed jazz development organisation Tomorrow’s Warriors teams up with saxophonist Kinch and a host of special guests to examine how this remarkable creative revolution continues to influence musicians and writers 100 years later.

A Tomorrow’s Warriors alum, award-winning alto-saxophonist, MC and broadcaster, Kinch is one of the most exciting musicians in both the British jazz and hip-hop scenes.

One of the few artists in either genre with a degree in Modern History from Oxford University, he has amassed an impressive list of accolades and awards on both sides of the Atlantic - including a Mercury Prize nomination, two UMA Awards and two MOBOs for Best Jazz Act.

Host of BBC Radio Three’s Round Midnight, Kinch brings a deep understanding of how incredibly profound the influence of the Harlem Renaissance was, and continues to be.

He says: ‘Despite being 3,500 miles away and almost a century in the past, it’s still highly relevant in today’s world: from Duke Ellington’s music to Langston Hughes’ poetry and Zora Neale Hurston’s folklore, it represented a genuinely revolutionary flowering of artistic expression... This is a coming together to celebrate the embodiment of Black joy.’

This event is part of Tomorrow’s Warriors Presents Harlem Renaissance: A 100 Year Revolution.

Presented by Southbank Centre.
